2023 Bendito Destino Clarete

$115.00

Clarete is a traditional style of rosé wine from Spain, particularly associated with the regions of Ribera del Duero and Cigales. It differs from typical rosé in both its production method and its deeper colour and flavor profile, often more savoury and intense rather than fruity. Clarete’s are actually blends of red and white grapes, unlike most rosés, which are made solely from red grape varieties, Clarete is produced by co-fermenting a blend of red and white grapes. This gives the wine a unique balance of flavours, with the freshness of a white wine and the fruitiness of a red.

Similar to a rosado or rosé, this wine is a blend of seven different grape varieties from Canalejas de Peñafiel, including Tempranillo, Garnacha, Bobal, and Monastrell for the reds, and Albillo, Pirulés, and Alarije for the whites.
It represents an old-school Rosé-Clarete style, traditionally made in the region from our vineyards and contracted fruit. The grapes are foot-stomped, basket-pressed, and fermented in barrels, where they age on fine lees for seven months.

Deep pink, almost salmon. The nose shows wild strawberries, red currants, florals, and a touch of earth and herbs. The palate is full and textured with ripe raspberry, cranberry, and a hint of citrus, lifted by lively acidity and a soft, creamy feel from the lees. Subtle spice, smoke, and earth add complexity. It blends red-fruit depth with white-wine freshness, with great length, tension, and a balance of richness and sharp acidity.
