Jérome Blin

CHAMPAGNE

Trélou-sur-Marne, Champagne

Jérôme Blin works organically with biodynamic principles on his family’s tiny holdings in Trélou-sur-Marne, with a particular focus on Pinot Meunier. The estate is approximately 6 hectares, 3 hectares under the Jérome Blin label. His wines consistently show a beautiful balance of generous fruit, elegant texture, and lifted, chalky freshness, honest, expressive Champagne made with care rather than flash.

The Blin family has been crafting wine in Vincelles, on the border of the Marne and Aisne departments, since 1671. After assisting his father, Jérôme launched his own label in 2010, cultivating just under 3 hectares organically. Production is tiny, with plot-by-plot vinification in barrels or amphora, using indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention. In 2012, he began converting to organic cultivation, and in 2018 the adopted biodynamic principles too.

Often Champagne's with zero dosage and single vineyard bottling and not assemblage

While Pinot Meunier is the estate’s focus, the vineyards also include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and tiny amounts of Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris, adding subtle complexity to the wines. Each bottle expresses the terroir and care that define Jérôme’s approach.

For Jérôme Blin, zero dosage isn’t a marketing choice,  it’s a natural outcome. When the grapes are healthy, fermentation occurs spontaneously with wild yeasts, and the wine matures on the lees, no sugar is needed to achieve balance. Even La Pouillote, with 3 grams of dosage, is considered his most “opulent” wine, while most others are crafted entirely without it. The result is Champagne of striking precision: taut, mineral, with acidity as sharp as a scalpel, yet still revealing pure, unmasked fruit.

While the major houses blend wines from hundreds of parcels, Jérôme Blin takes the opposite approach. Each of his Champagnes comes from a single vineyard, often from old vines, and is always fermented spontaneously. Les Ports is a complantation — a historic Gemischter Satz of Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay grown and harvested together. Les Caillasses reflects the stony soils, while La Haute Cirière comes from the estate’s highest parcels.

With Jérôme Blin, you don’t drink a brand, you taste a place.
