2023 Domaine Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Rouge

$170.00

From old vines planted on clay-limestone soils rich in pebbles and well-drained. Harvested by hand, sorted, then vinified in vats with gentle extraction to preserve the finesse of the fruit and the tannic structure. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, mostly old, for 12 to 14 months.
Deep ruby colour with purple highlights. The nose opens with aromas of ripe red fruits—cherry, raspberry, morello cherry—complemented by floral and spicy touches, as well as subtle notes of undergrowth and smoke. On the palate, the body is supple yet structured, with fine, silky tannins supporting a rich and precise fruit. The finish is long, elegant, and saline.

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes is the usual blend of two parcels. With juicy ripe black cherries and mulberry scents on the nose, this is not complex but there is purity in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with a crunchy entry, black pepper and a touch of graphite, though just a little dry on the finish. Give it a year in bottle. 90 points
