Les Îles Feray from Domaine Gonon is the only wine produced under the IGP Ardèche designation by the estate. This choice reflects the philosophy of winemakers Pierre and Jean Gonon, who seek to preserve the integrity and complexity of their Saint-Joseph red cuvée in honor of the appellation.
Although much of the Saint-Joseph appellation now includes vineyards on flatter plains, the Gonon brothers’ primary holdings are on the traditional granite hillsides that define the appellation’s character. The vines used for Les Îles Feray, however, lie on the plains and could technically qualify as Saint-Joseph. Out of conviction and respect for terroir, the estate deliberately downgraded this wine to IGP status—a decision that in no way diminishes its quality.

On the nose, the wine immediately reveals enticing spicy aromas, with ripe, concentrated yet elegant Syrah fruit. Subtle hints of star anise and orange peel emerge after a few minutes of aeration.
On the palate, it displays remarkable finesse and delicacy. Flavors of black cherry, blackcurrant, and a touch of smoke meld seamlessly, offering balance and purity. The drinkability of Les Îles Feray is simply outstanding—a graceful, refined expression of Syrah that embodies both honesty and precision.
