2022 Domaine de Bellevue (Jérôme Bretaudeau) Muscadet Gabbro Clos des Bouquinardières

$108.50

Gabbro Clos des Bouquinardières 2022 is a remarkable Muscadet crafted by Jérôme Bretaudeau, one of the Loire Valley’s most respected and forward-thinking winemakers. The wine comes from the historic Clos des Bouquinardières in the village of Gorges, planted on rare gabbro soils — a magmatic rock of oceanic origin that imparts the wine with its signature mineral depth, precision, and tension.

Bretaudeau works naturally in the cellar, using spontaneous fermentation and extended aging on the lees to build texture and complexity while preserving purity and freshness. The result is an elegant, finely structured white wine that balances bright citrus fruit with a distinctive saline edge and remarkable length.

On the nose, it opens with aromas of citrus, green apple, and pear, layered with flinty mineral notes and a subtle sea breeze character. The palate is taut and vibrant, showing savoury depth and a long, salty finish that speaks clearly of its maritime origins.

This is a brilliant wine to enjoy with oysters, shellfish, or grilled fish, as well as scallops, lobster, or lighter vegetable and cheese-based dishes. Gabbro soils are incredibly rare in viticulture — the same rock type found on the ocean floor and even the moon — and Bretaudeau’s sensitive approach allows this unique terroir to shine. A key figure in the modern renaissance of Muscadet, he continues to show just how profound and age-worthy wines from this region can be.
