2018 François Rousset-Martin Château Chalon Sous Roche

$520.00

I tasted very little Vin Jaune from François Rousset-Martin, because he makes very little and ages it for a long time. But there is a classical 2018 Château Chalon Sous Roche aged in a humid and cool cellar, so it’s quite fresh and less oxidative for the normal time of ageing, around seven years.

Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

It was in 228-litre barrels that were never topped up, and it developed a thin veil of flor yeasts that gives it the Jura twang of spices, curry and nuts. This has a nose of ash and is smokier than your average flor wine, with some liquorice and celery, but it has subtle complexity. It’s still a baby in need of years in bottle to develop its full complexity. This Vin Jaune has a lighter palate, despite the warm year, and it has finesse and elegance. 97 points
