2021 Bendito Destino La Cabaña

$325.00

The Bendito Destino La Cabaña 2021 showcases impeccable tannin management, with finely integrated black tea and red currant notes, hints of smoked meats, and a dash of licorice adding depth. This is an elegant, refined wine with outstanding tension that hints at its aging potential, though it’s already beautifully expressive now. The texture is both silky and taut, with a layered tannic structure that leads to a long, graceful finish. This fine balance of power and finesse promises further complexity over time, rewarding those who choose to let it mature.

This is the very plot where Bendito Destino was conceived, the heart and inspiration of the project and first vineyard acquired. With a northeast orientation and a unique blend of sandy and clay soils, this 0.38-hectare plot produces a compelling mix of 75% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and Valenciano, and 10% Albillo, complemented by 5% Alarije and Pirulés. This exceptional vineyard embodies the essence of Terry’s vision and craftsmanship, delivering a truly distinctive wine experience.

This is from a rocky north-facing vineyard, and it’s where they started the project. Northeast orientation, with sandy and clay soil. 75% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha & Valenciano, 10% Albillo, 5% Alarije and Pirulés. Super-floral nose here. Refined and elegant red cherries and plums with some structure and a mineral quality. Very stony, bright and fine with real elegance. Chalky and gravelly. 96 points

Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate
The first vintage and the beginning of it all, the 2021 La Cabaña is a field blend with a perfumed and beautiful nose with notes of orange peel and decayed flowers. This is the first vineyard they bought, a plot at 925 meters above sea level, and this is the first wine and first vinification, the reason they decided to stay here.
The soil is very rocky, shallow and poor, with limestone bedrock. The vineyard was closed by a wall in this part, but now only one part of the wall remains. 2021 was slightly cooler than 2023, and the wines have a lot of tension. The élevage was also longer—two years in a new 500-liter Rare François Frère barrel, which doesn’t show in the aromatics at all now.
With time in the glass, it developed notes of thyme and pine trees—pretty much the vegetation around it—and it’s herbal but not green or stemmy. This is plain beautiful. It’s ready now but will keep developing in bottle. The 12.8% alcohol reflects good ripeness. In 2022, they didn’t bottle it separately. In 2021, they produced 550 bottles that were filled in October 2023. 97 points

A field blend from a 0.38-hectare plot of 75% tempranillo, 10% garnacha and valenciano with 10% albillo, 5% alarije and pirules.

A vibrant, pure wine of blueberry fruits, black olive, alpine herbs, tart cherry and some creamy, spiced vanilla notes. Fine and sleek, very fine boned and fresh tannin profile with light spice and cool elements keeping things in check. Compact, drives with great energy, so vibrant. 95 points
