RR comes from a tiny 0.33-hectare pocket of rare red soil set within a sea of limestone in the Kirchspiel vineyard. Often described as the alter ego of Kirchspiel Grosses Gewächs, it has quietly become an under-the-radar cult bottling from Keller.
This small parcel gives a darker, more brooding expression of Riesling, marked by wet stone, damp earth, clay and subtle tobacco notes. The wine rarely ferments completely dry, and the Kellers embrace this natural balance, bottling it as a feinherb style — just gently off-dry. Labeled as Kirchspiel RR, the name reflects its origin: Riesling from red soil, offering a distinctive and deeply expressive take on this great site.
