In Villanueva de Duero which is continental climate. 100 % Verdejo on silica sand soils at 697 meters elevation. Vines are over 150 years and goblet trained plus certified organic farming.
La Otea was planted in Villanueva de Duero more than 150 yars ago. Ungrafted vines thanks to the sandy soil which protected them from phyloxera. River Duero is just 300 meters from the vineyard. Organic viticulture with some biodynamic practises like time of prunning, infusions of horsetail and nettle, sheep whey. Yields are about 1300 kg/ha.
The grapes were picked by hand in 15kg cases. Once in the cellar, they were directly pressed and fermented in 600L French oak barrels for 40-50 days where it is aged for 11 monts. After that, the wine stays another 11 months in stainless steel tank for natural decanting. The wine was bottled with a small amount of sulphur, unfinned and unfiltered in July 2023.
