Jérôme Bretaudeau began his career working alongside Alain Gaubert, where he spent 13 years as head of viticulture. In 2001, he established himself at Domaine de Bellevue in Gétigné, located in the Pays Nantais. He initially tended just 2 hectares of vines inherited from his father. Today, the estate spans 15 hectares—10 planted to white varieties and 5 to red.
Bretaudeau has earned a reputation for both his innovation and eclectic approach, experimenting with a wide range of grape varieties and winemaking vessels. While Melon B. makes up the core of his plantings (90%), he also grows Chardonnay, Savagnin, Folle Blanche, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Gris—varieties not commonly seen in the region. His reds include Cabernet Franc (40%), Gamay noir à jus blanc (12%), Merlot (40%), Pinot Noir (20%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (12%). In the cellar, he employs a mix of stainless steel, oak barrels, concrete eggs, tuns, and amphorae to vinify and age his wines. The estate has been certified biodynamic since 2016.

One of his standout cuvées, Granite “Clos des Perrières”, is made from Melon B. grown on granite-rich, silty-sandy soils. The wine is aged for several months on its lees, delivering texture and depth.
The Muscadet ‘Granite- Les Perrières’ has granite soils and vines planted in 1920; this produces very fine, very mineral wine; tight as a drum yet silken and sensual, it tastes of flint and flowers and is very inspired drinking. Next time one of your customers asks you about ‘terroir’ you could pour them a glass of this by way of explanation. This is a special bottle that will keep for years if you have the patience.
