Clos des Papes was founded in 1896 by Paul Avril in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France. The Avril family, however, has been involved in winemaking in the region since the 18th century. Today, the estate is run by Paul-Vincent Avril, continuing its legacy of producing some of the most highly regarded wines in the Rhône Valley.

They produce some of the most elegant, age-worthy, and complex wines in the Rhône Valley. Known for its meticulous vineyard management, low yields, and traditional winemaking approach, Clos des Papes crafts wines that beautifully balance power and finesse. With a blend dominated by grenache, alongside mourvèdre, syrah, and other permitted varieties, the wines exhibit layers of dark fruit, garrigue, spice, and a signature minerality that evolves gracefully over decades.
