Tenuta
La Novella

Chianti Classico

Perched at an altitude of 500 meters in the heart of Tuscany, Tenuta La Novella is a captivating estate located within the Chianti Classico appellation. This 188-hectare estate, once abandoned, was restored in 1996 by François Schneider, who was captivated by the property’s beauty. Over the years, the old cellars dating back to the time of the Medicis, the vineyard, and the surrounding olive groves have been meticulously revived.

Since 2015, Simone Zemella has been at the helm, further enhancing the estate by embracing biodynamic farming practices. The vineyards span 13.5 hectares, cultivated between 350 and 650 meters above sea level, on a mosaic of fifteen parcels. The soils are a combination of schist and sandstone, offering ideal conditions for producing rich, balanced, and terroir-driven wines.

The primary varietals are Sangiovese and Syrah, complemented by smaller proportions of Canaiolo, Trebbiano, Malvasia, Moscato, and Viognier. High planting densities (5500 to 7000 vines per hectare) ensure deep root exploration, resulting in grapes that are an authentic expression of the unique terroir.

“Chianti Classico is a benchmark for quality in Tuscany, offering wines with a distinctive personality. The combination of Sangiovese’s purity and the region’s diverse terroir makes them stand out on the world stage."

Biodynamic practices are meticulously followed, including the use of green manure, spontaneous grassing, and minimal intervention. Fertilization is carried out with organic products and cow manure, contributing to the vitality and health of the soil. In 2019, Tenuta La Novella earned biodynamic certification with the BioDyn label, ensuring sustainability and respect for nature.

The lunar cycles guide every step of production, from vineyard management to winemaking and bottling, allowing the wines to fully express their potential. Spontaneous fermentations are conducted using native yeasts, with wines aging in large oak casks, concrete vats, stainless steel tanks, and stoneware jars to maintain their authenticity.

Hand harvesting ensures only the finest grapes are selected, with moderate extraction and low oak aging to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Sulfites are kept to a minimum, with levels below 50mg/L, resulting in wines that are pure, balanced, and deeply reflective of their origin.

Experience the harmonious expression of nature and tradition through Tenuta La Novella’s exceptional biodynamic wines.

“Chianti Classico delivers an extraordinary sense of place, with its vibrant fruit, complex aromatics, and structured tannins. The best wines from this region are truly memorable and age gracefully."
