Nerina
Cardile

Solicchiata, Mt Etna

Although raised amidst the winemaking traditions of her family in Solicchiata, Nerina initially pursued a different path, studying psychology and specialising in psychotherapy. Yet, the pull of her homeland, of Etna’s vineyards and the unique energy of the region, proved irresistible. In 2018, she returned to her village, rekindling her connection with the land.

After joining Vino di Anna (an Australian winemaker based in Etna) in 2019, Nerina honed her skills and deepened her understanding of winemaking. In 2020, a gift of land from her parents became the foundation of her dream. The vines are all over 100 years old, offering small, concentrated yields. Guided by her father’s wisdom and her mother’s unwavering encouragement, Nerina took the leap to vinify her own grapes. Through her wines, she tells her story, a story of passion, resilience, and respect for nature’s perfection.

“Italy's most dynamic wine region," highlighting the "growth and excitement surrounding wines made under this very active volcano."

- Monica Larner

For Nerina, every step in the vineyard and cellar is rooted in care and reverence. Her philosophy is simple yet profound: “Nature is perfect as it is.” Her wines are alive, reflecting the energy of Etna and the love poured into every bottle.

The soil composition is a make up of volcanic, sand and ash from volcanic eruptions. Wines from volcanic soils often exhibit a pronounced minerality, with flavors reminiscent of wet stones, flint, or seaspray. This can add complexity and depth to the wine. Plus they are well-drained, encouraging vines to grow deep roots.

No chemical intervention whatsoever. All work is carried out manually with respect for nature and the land and harvested on the 7th of October 2023. And the vines are in the alberello method which is a double Etna cordon.
